PSA = SC Leptospirosis Alert

Apparently there have been some Lepto cases pop up in a few counties in SC. I just got an alert on it, and here's the county map as of today. It does not say how many cases are involved, but maybe some of the Vets here can fill some of those details in.

Hopefully this is not a widespread issue.

Our Vet members can certainly tell us much, much more, but it’s my understanding that Lepto is not normally a wide spread or common problem. There are, however, breakouts in limited areas from time to time. But it is a disease that is tracked because it can get serious pretty quick, and can transfer to humans… and vice versa.

I called my Vet's office in Anderson County to ask if they'd seen any cases. His receptionist, who has the personality of an oak log, said, "No, I don't even know what it is...". I quickly explained it to her and asked her to verify with the doc and let me know, which I doubt she'll do.
