My son is getting into bass fishing and wants to add a baitcaster to his spinning reels and I don’t know much about them. What’s a good rod/reel combo in the $150-$200 range?

What duck cutter said.....but make sure the rod is medium heavy.

What they said. I don’t think you can go wrong with Lews. I have 10 of their tournament pros but like the $99 reels better. If you don’t mind used, I may be thinning the heard if you would be interested.

I’ve had quite a few baitcaster reels over the years. Ambassedeur, Calcutta, and one tough-ass Quantun that I caught about a million golf course bass with. I would recommend any of these reels. Most reels on the market are good, but I would avoid anything that doesn’t have a metal base - the part that locks into the rod. I have seen over the years a few broken composite bases. The reel is done if the composite base breaks.
I’m told they make em now with an anti-backlash brake. I haven’t seen one of those yet.

This is a fine combination.
