    Default Throttle body relearn...

2011 Silverado. Had the throttle body replaced and now it's surging when coming to a stop. It's almost like I'm pressing the brake and the gas at the same time. It's kind of like when it's down shifting from say 3rd to 1st, the RPM's are going up. The mechanic that changed it told me to drive it and that it would relearn itself. I've driven it for about three days and it's not gone away yet. I tried the method of cranking it up and letting it idle for three minutes, shutting it off for a minute and cranking it up again but it still does it. Do I need to take it in and have the relearn procedure done, or will it eventually work itself out?

On a jeep, I understand it has to be coded in, or so they say. Sounds like your mechanic does not have access to the codes or computer to do it.

Better hope KRT steps in and speaks.

Disconnect the battery cables, jump out the negative and positive battery cables. Either touch them together if you have enough slack, or use a scrap price of wire. This discharges and capacitance that is built up anywhere. Reconnect cables. Crank up and let run, best to do on a cold start up. Computer will set new parameters for everything.

Sounds like you might have a vacuum leak.

I thought that might be the case too, but it didn't do it before the throttle body was replaced.

    Exactly.

Homeboy either didn't hook a hose up right, didn't tighten something properly, or cracked something when he installed the new throttle body.

If I'm right, you can test with some spray starter fluid.

Just toot around in there with the spray and see if the engine revs while you're spraying it around.

It has to be between the TB and intake or the intake itself, if you have a leak.

It will eventually work itself out. One thing that helped when I did mine was driving at all different speeds, not just back and forth down a neighborhood street. Take it out on the interstate or rural road and get up to 70 then to a stop then to 45 then to a stop. Give it a range of speeds and conditions so it can relearn the position. The quicker it sees a range the quicker it relearns. I have removed and cleaned mine 3 times on my 2007.

I’d take it to a reputable shop and allow them to do a relearn procedure.

All these attaboys and your Durango tells a different story.

It's really sad you have to endure such atrocity.

I put air in the right rear again this weekend.

My "car guy" said I could wait to get new tires.

Like I gotta "wait" for him to open a new damn shop. maybe he's out of those wheel weights his techs are so fond of.....
