    Yes, If you keep your foot out of the pedal with 87 you will be fine. An engine designed for 91/93 octane will have knock sensors which will compensate by retarding timing. You most likely will notice a difference in power or mpg. The thing is, at idle and light loads you never get close to pushing the limits of octane. Climbing a long grade, accelerating hard, and towing are where octane (ignition knock) matters.

    Or if you have a manual transmission where you can lug at 1500rpms and mash down on the pedal in high gear.
