Can probably thank the shit asses that hunt spots like the old rice fields off Hwy 45 and Iron Swamp every.single.day. Im sure there are plenty more spots that get just as much pressure. I walked the old dikes at Iron Swamp one day last year after duck season, it looked like springtime in there, but what looked like little flowers were shotgun shell hulls. Hundreds. It was an eye opener.
These jack asses are to blame.

CAT 1 WMA management and the governance of FMNF are mutually exclusive, btw.

[QUOTE=Duck Tape;3004156]I checked on this when I heard about it.

Was told the recommendation came from federal employees to reduce disturbance.[/QUOTE

Were the ducks or the employees being disturbed?

I was being a smartass, same as you hear private impoundments pushing ducks, I hear stories all the time about people swearing these places bait by the ton, etc, etc. It's quite comical

The public hunter doesn't realize a safe refuge is one of the best baits out there.
They go ape shit crazy at the thought of a duck resting and not getting shot at.

Agreed but 600k acres is kind of a lot of land to deem a safe refuge. How many hunters just got screwed out of swamps they used to hunt on weekdays and now will have that much more competition on Saturdays? This is a really bad decision. I hunt on Friday mornings a lot and hear a lot of shooting. That's all going to move to Saturdays now.

If along with this there was going to be significant improvement of waterfowl habitat in the wetland areas of SNF and FMNF then I would say it's a good idea. But we know that isn't going to happen. We're still going to be stuck with the same, dwindling, amount of suitable waterfowl habitat and rather than the already insane amount of pressure at least divided among Friday mornings, now Saturdays are going to be even more crowded.

Limiting public hunter opportunity seems to be the only change this DNR ever makes. Never any habitat improvement.

I’ll likely not hunt SC this year and just take an OOS trip or two. 90% of my hunting here is on beaver swamps in the national forest during the week before work. It’s not worth it anymore to fight the crowds and idiots that will walk in at day light on Wednesdays and Saturdays and set up 50 yds away. I used to enjoy hunting the rivers and lakes in the upstate, but on the off chance there are a few birds around 9k people will run right through them daily it seems.

since you will have all that extra time during the week, how about yall figure out how to get a crew started towards my way and send some wood to us. It is the least you could do for teaching you the art of forestry back in the day. "Its the best everrrrrrr."

From what I'm hearing, the folks that can slip off during the week are ruining it for the fellow that has to work all week. They've done shot all the holes out by the weekend.

It doesn't matter if it's 610k acre or 610, the Saturday hunter has been getting screwed. Now y'all get Wednesdays and he gets Saturdays.

I need more quota in Prosperity! My truck cuts off north of Clinton, east of Blair, west of Ninety Six, or south of Batesburg. I make a few exceptions in the winter. Hope you’re doing well Geno. Wouldn’t mind catching up sometime and having a high life or 12. I was thinking about the crackhead in the halo clapping an hollering at us. Glad you were in front with the .410 snake charmer bahaha.

100's of thousands of acres of CAT II without actually being labeled CAT II. This ought to be interesting.
    Read closer.

And this came out in October of last year.
