    Default Old(est) decoys

Running back through some pictures thinking I needed a change of pace from weather watching for the past bit and figured I’d share this here. These were on loan from the Smithsonian to the museum of Native American history in NYC. It was a place I wanted to see (because of lineage) while up there and glad I did. Which reminds me… hey Harv!

The Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art in Salisbury, Maryland is also worth a stop if you're ever in the area.

Yep. I'd love to kill a bird or two over something like that...looks like I'd need some egret feathers to do the drake...

They even have the posture/shape accurate. I'd imagine if I was around back then, I'd go for a general duck shape à la Herters 72. Pretty amazing.

Not that old, but here’s a pretty badass find.

My buddy working a jobsite in the harbor found this sleeper redhead washed up in the marsh.
    I’m guessing late 1800s

Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.

Egret feathers, eh? Hell the ancient Egyptians were using live egrets as roboducks to kill pintails.

Here is what they used to kill them...
