I think a silage cutter is the best way to spread standing corn but since I don't have one, I jack up one side of my mower and drop it as close to the ground as possible so it busts up the ears and slings them into the disced row beside the standing corn. I've tried a limb chipper but it's too much work and makes grits that don't last very long. Late season doves seem to like whole kernels.

A wood chipper, 3-4 good friends, and a case of beer or two can achieve the same results as a silage cutter.

All you gotta do is crack the throttle, running it wide open will make grits.
