    Default Local Chiwapa Source

Anybody know where I can order some Chiwapa millet to get in the ground next weekend? Somehow seeding time snuck up on me

Edit: Also, if anyone could explain if there's any difference between Rex rice and Diamond Rice for duck food I would appreciate it. The fellow at the seed store couldn't tell me much.

Golden Millet is basically the same thing. There are several places in SC that sell it. Place in St George and a place in Rock Hill I think.

I was actually gonna try some golden millet too. What kind of experience have you have with seeding rate? I've been seeing anywhere from 15lbs-35lbs an acre.

Chiwapa is much better than golden millet. Grows taller and heads are much bigger.

Hancock seed company sent me Rex rice seed for ducks and it seems to be growing in the mud and few inches of water. Hope that helps.

Golden millet and Chiwapa are not at all the same thing.

    Not even close.
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.

Y’all can say what you want…I’ve planted all three(to include Jap) the last three years. Last year they were planted side by side and, yes you could tell the difference but at the end of the day they are all still a millet and a sub par planting for ducks. That’s my opinion…

@AH Holy Appreciate the info. I read somewhere that you had to fertilize it to avoid getting just empty hulls when it pops. You know if that's true?

Later this fall when the millet has made, you bring your best jap stalk, and I’ll bring chiwapa, and we can duel with them.

Beat you like a child and won’t break the stalk.

It doesn’t mention anything about having to fertilize for production and it’s not mentioned in any of the reviews. Their website has some good general info on the variety.
