    Default Palmetto Boys State....

Been meaning to post about this and just haven't gotten around to it. My oldest attended PBS this year and had a great time. I did not attend and frankly didn't know a whole lot about it before he applied to go. He hasn't stopped talking about it since he got home. He had a great time, met a ton of kids from all over the state, and even ended up rooming with a fellow SCDuckers kid. (We are literally everywhere. LOL)

Anyway, wanted to post this for anybody that has kids entering the 11th grade next year. If you haven't thought about it, encourage your kid to look into it. It's a great experience

Mine was at Girls State and had an absolute blast. Met some really great people along the way. It was certainly worth it.

haha I'm envisioning that conversation in my head.

Son #1: My daddy has a bunch of friends on a duck hunting website.

Son #2: So does my dad, who is your dad?

    Son #1: He's Feetdown.

Son #2: My daddy is horrycountyduckslayer69.

I went in highschool and then was a counselor the summer after. It's a good program/experience for young people and looks good on college applications.

Think they put it together through Facepage but that was my question. "How did SCDucks come up?"

Does going to boys/girls state effect your résumé when applying to a college? Just wondering if it makes a difference on the applications.

Glad your boy went and had a good time Feets.
I can echo what WillK said. I remember not being too excited about no A/C at the Citadel for a week but wound up having a great experience. My niece was selected this year to Girls State and was sure she didn't want to go and would hate it. We told her she was absolutely going. She loved it and didn't want to leave to come home. Made some lifelong friends and got some fantastic scholarship opportunities.

I would say yes plus just attending earns you scholarship money. The President at PC spoke to the girls last week and told them that ANY girl attending Girls State that applied and was accepted to PC would receive a 25K/yr scholarship for 4 years. I told my daughter "I hope you liked PC"

Don't know if it's a direct influence or not, but it can't hurt.

Both my boys went to Boy's State, were Eagle Scouts, played multiple sports in HS, were involved in civic functions, plus had good grades ...All those experiences have served them well.

The more things a kid can stack up on an application looks good, whether applying for college or that first job.

I’ve reserved the screen name “Dixie Chicken” for him.

Oh I'm not. Plus mine is a STRONG Anderson Univ lean with North Greenville a very close second. I may have her apply to PC just to see what happens, but I would imagine PC will be screening the Girls State group pretty heavily. They aint giving up that money for shits and giggles.

I didn't go. Believe it or not, even though having pretty solid grades, I was one of the wilder people that walked in our high school during our years. I kinda did whatever I felt the need to do. We had a nerdy class of overachievers.. I had a buddy though, Hammond kid during my senior year bring me back an Boys State t shirt with a Tasmanian devil on the back with "wild thang" printed underneath it.

I’ve never met an AU grad that didn’t speak highly of the school.
