    when should the seed begin to fall? the entire pod will fall or will they open?

    I've read that there are different varieties and some are called "shattering" or "non-shattering". The shattering ones bust open more easily.

    It will be 2nd season at the earliest in my opinion. 3rd for sure. They usually open up and seeds just spill out when the wind blows. Definitely better after a killing frost.

    It’s about ready - seeds are falling. Still mostly weed free despite the 1.5” of rain we get every other day. I tried to mow a strip today but it was way too wet.

    Looks like I got the shattering variety.

    Saw 1 dove.

    Yeh they are thick in mine as well. You’ll notice birds really hit benne hard when it gets cold later in the season.

    I can’t plant sunflowers. Too much deer pressure, and I’m not messing with a fence.

    I’d bet our deer pressure ranks near the top of anywhere in the world, the fence is easy, easier if you like shooting birds.
