    Default Row width?

My JD 7200 planter is set on 38" rows. The gap between my tires is only 41". When I spray or broadcast fertilizer over planted crops, it's really easy to run over one row. I am considering adjusting the planter to 30" rows. That will give me much more room for driving error and make it easier to make parallel rows. I don't have row markers on the planter and now when I turn around to make another pass, my tire track is beside the last track, not right in it. I have to sight on some spot on the loader and line it up with the drive wheel track of the last row to try to keep my rows spaced equally. With 30" rows, I'll be right in the same tire track. Closer rows might also help shade out weeds better.

I know I'll need to move nozzles around on my sprayer and if I get a row cultivator make sure it is set for 30" rows but is there any compelling reason not to go to narrower rows?

Most of my growers plant corn on 30” rows, beans and cotton on 36/38’s. Hope that helps.

I'm not sure of the best answer, but I plant on 28 inch rows. It works for me.

The big time farmers in an area I hunt in Orangeburg plant on 30 inch rows. It must work for them.

Thirty inch works best for me. Also most trailer will haul a tractor with 60 inch width tires.

30" rows here. Gives me a few inches tire clearance when I spray.

Row width should be a multiple of the tire width. Center line of left and right tire. 60” will straddle 2 - 30” rows. Or 1 - 60” row. Some tractors aren’t easy to set the tire width, that’s one big difference in a utility/row crop tractor vs a compact tractor.

Row marker is easy. Set a pipe out to the side with small chain to drag along the last row you planted. I just follow my tracks after a few years of planting with my setup.

A 4 wheeler will work with 30 in spacing. Sometimes with follow up spraying, it's easier to use a 4 wheeler on property that's 45 miles from tractor.

30" rows here also. If you don't plant straight it can be a little tricky.

I set my JD 71 flex planters at 28 inch center row width. This works just right with my Kubota MX4800 tractor. Been doing this for several years and I have had good results. It makes it easy to go through with the sprayer and putting down fertilizer.
