Spankings teach the youngest of children that justice is swift and painful, that consequences are real and painful. We learned empathy from the stinging of our own asses.

Pull through a drive thru and have food that taste great, but is terrible for you, in under 5 minutes, go to job/or school that requires you to sit in a climate controlled office and type on a computer all day, drive home, order food on the computer without having to talk to anyone, and have it delivered to your house. Flood your brain with tv, while eating, and reading comment sections full of people arguing and saying things they never would in-person, play violent video games, while smoking some weed and sipping a few drinks, watch some porn, jack off, then go to sleep. Then do it all over again the next day. Then after they’ve had a complete mental break and have shot up that school or job, everyone wants to blame guns.

Pretty damn good explanation of what is happening in the world today. Add that to the breakdown of the nuclear family, removal of God from everything, normalization of freaks, lack of self discipline, etc etc and it ain't hard to see this world is going to be in a bad place in the next 30 years.

You, me and most people on this site grew up in a culture of controlled violence. We fought, wrestled, played tag (aka "shove"), engaged in physical combat sports whether organized or not. You want to inflict pain? That's cool but prepare to feel some as well. We weren't shielded from violence. We were participants in it so we developed a respect for it and what it can do because we were allowed to feel pain and learn from it. We learned to control it. They don't get that today for the most part.

The video games have certainly changed but I played a crap ton of war and blowing stuff up as a kid. We played with army men. We had BB gun wars. Shot the snot out of each other, no head shots was the only rule. Dirt clod wars which inevitably turned into rock huckin'. Smear the queer. King of the mountain. I could go on and on. It was violence. But it was real life and not on a screen where you couldn't feel the effects of your hand hurting from hitting someone or hurting from getting hit for running your mouth reckless.
AND we had fun doing all that rough housing stuff. Nobody was on Adderall, Ritalin, or other mind bending substances. We were usually one with our environment or friends and foes but all the ones we roughed with were just like us for the most part. Kids came to and in my house and I went to their house. We played basketball, tackle football, and baseball in the back yard every day what ever was in season. All were welcome to play at the best of their ability and all accepted.

which parts of that did i miss in the 70s? while I agree technology has made a lot of those things at your fingertips, its a broad brush you're painting with.

its easy to write a book after it happens but whats the quote about causation and correlation? hard to prove but easy to get people to believe you.

Every generation seems to think the next generation sucks and are going to destroy America but they never mention they were the ones to raise them.

Personally I've known quite a few old folks that weren't worth a shit and I've worked with a bunch of young people who show up everyday to work so they can care for and raise their family.

I hate to sound anything like toofer but the world ain't ending and most young people are going to be fine.

my world is not a court room and I don't need proof beyond a reasonable doubt to understand what makes sense to me.

true. that's inner peace. by any chance do you meditate? have you worked on your breathing techniques?

had an interesting discussion with a professor. he said something about "beliefs vs opinions". one is inate. internal. unwavering. the other is just an opinion of a topic. he made an interesting point about finding an article on the internet that falls in line with your opinion and it becomes belief. he wasnt saying good or bad just human nature and how we go down rabbit holes when the belief is already there its strengthened from opinion due to validation.

i couldnt quite follow all he was saying but i think he teaches a class in this kind of philosophy. I wouldnt mind listening to him one day....

Hell sounds to me like part of the problem is overthinking what we already know to be true.

    Maybe he has a podcast

But then that would crush his credibility.

The end of the clip says the problem is middle class white women, so now we’re back to overthinking what we already know.
