not a horrible assessment and I admitted my ignorance to this story. I just have never understood other people's infatuation with yucky things like this or the murdaugh shitnanigans.

(I couldnt think of a better word at the moment. yucky will have to suffice.)

    1234 still works.

All the kids and teacher in that room died because of no action by the police. I wonder if while they were in the hallway they heard shots from the class room.? If they did,and they still did nothing, damn them.

1234 still works but you have to be able give the correct countersign to the question "Why a spoon, cousin?", or touret guns deploy.
“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.”

Just stumbled across this video of Mike Glover breaking this down and exposing the cops for the cowards they were.

His tactical breakdown is so on point.

The primary issue is securing the school perimeter. An armed response is a secondary scene after your primary has failed. It is very difficult to secure when you may have 30 or more access points and on top of that 60 teachers and 500 kids opening doors. Doors propped open is common. A lock is not a lock if unlocked as Mike stated. I have been in secure facilities and there are NO unlocked doors even in the hallways and if one is opened someone is watching or investigating in person. Electronic locks with key cards have made that very simple. I don't know if we have the willingness for that type of security in our schools but need to figure something out.

So my wife is a 3rd grade teacher and I was talking with her about their protocols. IF they are followed, then they are about as tight as they can make a school. Exterior doors automatically lock behind them and the only access is with their ID (RFID, I presume). They have regular drills for lock down/lock out and she talked specifically about what that looks like. I questioned the badges in the sense that if someone was so inclined, they could overtake a staff member and use that same badge to enter - and that perhaps combination keypads may be better, but I am far from a security expert. I did talk with her principal directly in the days after this happened to at least ease my own mind that their school was as secure as I thought it was. When I go to the school, I can't even enter the main office without being buzzed in, and then again to get into the main building if I'm going to her room.

I think Glover does a great job above of talking about the tactical points of such a situation and that was my main reason for posting the link.

for once, I'm not arguing with you....

but my apathy will get me in trouble sometimes. Maybe its different for different age groups but (IMO) todays kids are some kind of weird, emotional wreck. I see some of the stupid reality shows and it irks me to no end watching the overblow emotions. Freaking get over it, you snowflake. I wonder if all these drills and such are necessary. I know someone will counter with "it could happen at any school at any time". well....maybe...but mathematically a miniscule chance. Put the correct safety measures in place and go teach my kids. the more we harp on it, the more the little shit has some excuse for wanting to cut his penis off and dress like a rainbow.

Not that secure at the high school down the road. They have metal detectors at the door but I am sure i could gain access if i wanted. It is difficult to stop a determined threat but most of the school shootings are not determined threats but rather convenient opportunity for a sick mind to act out. I wish the media would back off the promotion of these horrific acts. Every time they show that on TV they are creating another killer IMHO. I dont know how we got to this point.

Oh, there is no doubt that the administration is reacting to political pressures, and those mostly come from the society that we have created. They don't get that pressure from me and you - they get it from the same folks Glover talks about in his video that want to defund police, yet picket outside that they aren't protecting their babies.

Mine is only a couple years from being able to retire and she is already talking about what might her next gig be - because it sure won't be teaching. The administrative nonsense that they have to check off as teachers is maddening.

If kids had to go outside every morning and figure out why their chickens weren’t laying eggs, we wouldn’t have a lot of this nonsense.

    ^but here's the rub.

I like to pick on woodie bc he gets so mad about it. But, people like him scour the internet for the next paranoid revelation. They are all made up. Its a joke that he just doesnt get. If kids didnt have to perpetuate rumors on the internet, they wouldn't actually worry about their chickens laying fewer eggs in the winter.

I swear it makes sense in my head.

    Desensitization without any sensation.

You, me and most people on this site grew up in a culture of controlled violence. We fought, wrestled, played tag (aka "shove"), engaged in physical combat sports whether organized or not. You want to inflict pain? That's cool but prepare to feel some as well. We weren't shielded from violence. We were participants in it so we developed a respect for it and what it can do because we were allowed to feel pain and learn from it. We learned to control it. They don't get that today for the most part.

The video games have certainly changed but I played a crap ton of war and blowing stuff up as a kid. We played with army men. We had BB gun wars. Shot the snot out of each other, no head shots was the only rule. Dirt clod wars which inevitably turned into rock huckin'. Smear the queer. King of the mountain. I could go on and on. It was violence. But it was real life and not on a screen where you couldn't feel the effects of your hand hurting from hitting someone or hurting from getting hit for running your mouth reckless.

My point is that American society and most of the first world, has it too easy. We’ve technology-ed ourselves into being able to maintain an existence without any physical exertion, and flood our brains with dopamine without doing any work to achieve it. Wake up in a climate controlled home, make coffee by pressing button on machine. Go to indoor toilet, turn on water that’s piped into house, that heats itself, put on clothes that were washed and dried by a machine, go outside and get in a climate controlled car that only requires you to move your hands and feet a few inches to traverse miles. Pull through a drive thru and have food that taste great, but is terrible for you, in under 5 minutes, go to job/or school that requires you to sit in a climate controlled office and type on a computer all day, drive home, order food on the computer without having to talk to anyone, and have it delivered to your house. Flood your brain with tv, while eating, and reading comment sections full of people arguing and saying things they never would in-person, play violent video games, while smoking some weed and sipping a few drinks, watch some porn, jack off, then go to sleep. Then do it all over again the next day. Then after they’ve had a complete mental break and have shot up that school or job, everyone wants to blame guns.
