Default Reports of a boating fatality on Hartwell today

Sis in Law called wife and said there was a boat collision on Hartwell today and at least 1 deceased.

Have no other details but I am sure prayers would be appreciated for those involved

We also had a bad head on collision on Hwy 81 N Friday afternoon that took the lives of 4 people (know some of the families of those involved )

    Rough weekend in Anderson

We were on the lake north of there, heard the sirens and a low flying chopper came over us (possibly life flight?)
The lake was packed today. Tons of new boats, herds of jet skis and very few people paying attention. It's silly out there. I can't imagine what next weekend will be like. Good thing we will be in Bluffton Mem Day weekend dealing with the same issues in a different location...

    Prayers for all involved

I only go on weekdays. Still had a jet skier almost run into me on Thursday. It was what looked like 2 middle schoolers who had no clue.

Avoiding Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day on the water is good for your health.

There are places you can go on the water to avoid the chuckleheads.

I am not naming any on the interwebz tho.

It seems that when I venture to places with less of a crowd on these days the level of intoxication in those you do come across only increases. Haha

Here is an interesting report. Page 25 has the fatality by type of boat.

Open motorboat is the highest (that does include a wake boat, but it is a huge category). PWCs are the second highest. Pontoons are pretty low.

The main contributing factors are Alcohol, Operator inattention, Operator Inexperience, Speed.

I have been on or near the water most of my life. The biggest issues I see, and they seem to get worse every year, are inexperience and inattention. People don't know basic boating rules and don't have (what used to be) common curtesy.
Our dock is in the back of a cove, I peeled a guys ears back Saturday because he felt like he needed to roll a 3 foot wake right past our dock in his wake boat. I'm talking about a grown man, not a kid

Sounds like it was a 17 year old driving his bass boat by himself and collided with a pontoon boat. The teen was the one killed in the accident, just read about it on a GA page. Sad situation

We had a friend killed sophomore year when he got hit in the chest by the bow of a bassboat that hit plane about the instant it hit him. Bassboat forgot to trim back down before taking off and never saw him, I reckon...

Pontoons may be low on fatalities, but they have sent a million people to the back surgeon.
