As willyworm explained in the original thread, these bees are basically lazy in that they’ll try to use an old hole to nest in before drilling a new one. When they see the holes in the wood block they follow the tunnel upwards and then down towards the light and down into the jar. I have no idea why they won’t retreat into the vertical hole they came in through, but it never happens. Note, in my experience, the traps work better when you prime them with a couple of 1/2 dead bees who end up fighting each other. Maybe other bees are drawn to the fights… ?
