    Default Chess Match

Finally called checkmate on this henned up bird after 6 frustrating hunts. This time I was able to Wiesel my way to within 70 yds of him on the roost, when he pitched down, I didn’t afford him the opportunity to even pop a strut before i took the shot. Though the open terrain, hens, and this birds unpredictability were very frustrating, it made putting my hands on him that much more rewarding!

Absolutely gorgeous property. Majority of it has been cleared for hay field around 10 years ago. What wasn’t cleared was thinned of everything other than mature hardwoods. It is chocked full of deer and there were several times I could’ve scared the shit out of a button buck with a broomstick during those 6 hunts. Fields, some hardwoods, creek, it’s pretty diverse. There are 2 neighboring properties with thicker woods that border the fields to add to the diversity.

    Outstanding

Awesome. Way to stick with it and not cheapen the experience. Congrats!

Pretty spot. I don't spend more than a few hunts going after a specific bird anymore. I burned 3/4 of a season trying to kill one of those unkillable birds several years back, and I never got him. If I kill a bird, its on the first time I hunt him or the property that season (whether it's private I've hunted for years or public I've never stepped foot on before) 90% of the time. Maybe I'm not a good hunter and need a dumb one to get lucky enough to kill them.

Sound like you got ALOT of places to hunt, a lot of turkeys or you don’t hunt much at all.

I guess the first. There's tons of public land within 2 hrs of anyone in the state. Most is devoid of turkeys, so not the second, but you can occasionally walk up on one. iPhone said I walked 130 miles in April, so I hunted a good bit.
