I will be the first one to say I am not always as cautious or safe around the house as I may be elsewhere. I was ripping 2x4 boards into tomato stakes yesterday evening on the table saw. I know better than to push the boards all the way to the blade by hand, so I had my push stick. There’s was no support on the back of the saw so once 5-6’ went through, I would swing around and pull the last few feet. Was pulling the last board of the day, and the blade caught a knot. It snatched the board and me at lightning speed back towards the blade. I was a good 24” from it when it happened. Stuff like this happens so fast, I can’t even recall exactly how it went down. I felt the pain, and immediately shouted for the wife to come outside. Grabbed a rag, wrapped it, and went to the sink. Thinking it just knicked me, I unwrapped it to clean the wound and assess the damage. I wrapped it right back up and told her to get the keys. 4 hrs in the ER, x-rays, and a mess of stitches later, we finally left around 12:30am. Luckily no bone or tendon damage, just fat, muscle, and nerves. Doc said feeling may or may not return long term to my last two fingers due to nerves being severed. Take this as a lesson fellas. I’m pushing 40 and it was my first power tool incident. It can happen, and when it does, you can’t stop it.
