    Default Still have my fingers

I will be the first one to say I am not always as cautious or safe around the house as I may be elsewhere. I was ripping 2x4 boards into tomato stakes yesterday evening on the table saw. I know better than to push the boards all the way to the blade by hand, so I had my push stick. There’s was no support on the back of the saw so once 5-6’ went through, I would swing around and pull the last few feet. Was pulling the last board of the day, and the blade caught a knot. It snatched the board and me at lightning speed back towards the blade. I was a good 24” from it when it happened. Stuff like this happens so fast, I can’t even recall exactly how it went down. I felt the pain, and immediately shouted for the wife to come outside. Grabbed a rag, wrapped it, and went to the sink. Thinking it just knicked me, I unwrapped it to clean the wound and assess the damage. I wrapped it right back up and told her to get the keys. 4 hrs in the ER, x-rays, and a mess of stitches later, we finally left around 12:30am. Luckily no bone or tendon damage, just fat, muscle, and nerves. Doc said feeling may or may not return long term to my last two fingers due to nerves being severed. Take this as a lesson fellas. I’m pushing 40 and it was my first power tool incident. It can happen, and when it does, you can’t stop it.

Ouch. Glad you didn't get injured worse. Hope you have a full recovery.

I stuck my finger in a table saw once. Won't do that again.

Underpowered jobsite saws are dangerous. Was the riving knife installed? Sounds like is bound and kicked back.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Watched an old boss get cut on a table saw pretty good as we were finishing a hardwood flooring job once.

I’ve shot both a 16g finish nail and 16d nail into the pointer and middle fingers on my left hand, I’ve managed to avoid a saw cut so far

Get a consult with a hand surgeon asap. Can make a big difference in long term sequela.

No knife. That’s exactly what happened. Saw is an older pawn shop special. It only gets used a few times a year for small home projects

Fingers still work fine and all, just numbness in the last one

I am missing the bottom of my pinky finger. Trying to rip down a 20' stick of 2X4 without any support on the backside in my teens. I could feel every tooth on every rpm as it ate. No fingerprint on it now.

I’m currently looking at table saws and for this reason I’m thinking about crying a little and ponying up for a sawstop table saw.

He doesn't get them cut off. He gets them mangled by twisted wire. If you're gonna reference the greatest movie known to mankind don't fuck it up.

Not bad advice. Wait till it gets cold. Nerve damage and lack of blood flow pre-finger is a real bitch.

The nerve injury might be able to be addressed but time is of the essence.
