    Absolutely, when it’s windy or the current is rolling it’s a must have. Batteries also last a lot longer because it doesnt work as hard. I had an 80lb thrust 24v on my 18ft action craft and 19ft pathfinder and it was fine but in a bigger boat it wouldn’t be enough. Running a 112 on my 25 BR key west and wish minn Kota made a 150lb thrust.

    I'll go against the grain...my 22 bay boat(22' long, 8.5 wide, 2980# full of fuel and ready to fish...no ttop) has an 80# 24v and I have never run out of battery, nor have I not been able to make headway against the tide/wind even in Big Bay Creek.

    Caveat being, I do not use my TM as an anchor, I use it to move around....
