How do two people get credit for the record?
Two Upstate anglers reeled in a large walleye over Memorial Day weekend, tying the South Carolina record. The fish weighed 10 pounds, 1.44 ounces.
Chris Edlund and Dave Starzek caught the Walleye on Lake Tugalo.
I was this many days old when I learned there was even a body of water in SC with Walleye.
I was fishing the Tugaloo back in April with some locals, and according to them, the DNR has poured a pile of money into getting a good population established with a not too successful outcome. Looks pretty successful for those fellas.
“I can’t wait ‘till I’m grown” is the stupidest @!#* I ever said!
There are several SC lakes with pike. I am imagining a fleet of Lunds heading for Lake Tugalo driven by all these yankees that are busy infesting South Carolina like fireants.
We’ve caught several walleye while rockfishing at Hartwell over the years.
An older man that I worked with who lived on the lake targeted walleye in the late Winter and early spring. He caught quite a few, most 3-6#. He lived on the Tugalo arm and mainly fished there.
As per IFGA rules-
The following acts will disqualify a catch:
1. Failure to comply with equipment or angling regulations.
2. The act of persons other than the angler in touching any part of the rod,
reel, or line (including the double line) either bodily or with any device, from
the time a fish strikes or takes the bait or lure, until the fish is either landed or
released, or in giving any aid other than that allowed in the rules and regulations. If an obstacle to the passage of the line through the rod guides has to
be removed from the line, then the obstacle (whether chum, floatline, rubber
band, or other material) shall be held and cut free. Under no circumstances
should the line be held or touched by anyone other than the angler during this
process.
3. Resting the rod in a rod holder, on the gunwale of the boat, or any other
object while playing the fish.
4. Handlining or using a handline or rope attached in any manner to the
angler's line or leader for the purpose of holding or lifting the fish.
5. Shooting, harpooning, or lancing any fish (including sharks and halibuts) at any stage of the catch.
6. Chumming with or using as bait the flesh, blood, skin, or any part of
mammals other than hair or pork rind used in lures designed for trolling or
casting.
7. Using a boat or device to beach or drive a fish into shallow water in
order to deprive the fish of its normal ability to swim.
8. Changing the rod or reel while the fish is being played.
9. Splicing, removing, or adding to the line while the fish is being played.
10. Intentionally foul hooking a fish.
11. Catching a fish in a manner that the double line never leaves the rod
tip.
12. Using a size or kind of bait that is illegal to possess.
13. Attaching the angler's line or leader to part of a boat or other object
for the purpose of holding or lifting the fish.
14. If a fish escapes before gaffing or netting and is recaptured by any
method other than as outlined in the angling rules.
15. Holding or touching an angler in a manner that assists them in fighting the fish or takes pressure off of the angler. Touching or briefly holding the
angler to prevent them from falling does not constitute a disqualification

There are walleye up the Tugaloo river in Hartwell.
Back whenI was in HS we lived on Hartwell (graduated 1980). Used to catch quite a few walleyes then
One am before school I was fishing and caught 3, Dad weighed one and is 10+ lbs however not a certified scale or anything
Filleted those suckers before school and talking with my Biology teacher that day(he was an avid outdoorsman and lived in Seneca ) about the biggest one. He told me that was a SC Record if accurate
We will never know, those were supper that night when I got home LOL
Have not caught a walleye in Hartwell in years but buddy of mine caught couple last summer
He caught his down near the dam.
However, somebody correct me if I am wrong, but seems like GA DNR still stocks some walleyes in Hartwell in upper ends on their side
