    Default Sandspurs

We just purchased a home that has a ton of sandspurs in the yard. I started pulling some this weekend, but they are probably too thick for that approach to work before my 7 year old goes to college.

From reading, it looks like the soil is acidic and needs lime. Thats all fine and well, but these little bastards are thick. What do I need to spray to kill these things? There are a ton of "suggestions " online, but all of them are $200/gallon type stuff. I don't want 10 different poisons sitting on the shelf that don't do shit to them.

Speedzone will kill the hell out of them.

Celsius. Speedzone if I can't find it. Treat every year the end of Feb/first of March.

See that's why you had weed problems too, Fahrenheit has no residual control of gypsy merkins.

Good to know. Wondering why I had them “bush” back out again. And by them, I mean gypsy merkins. Not sandspurs.

    Thanks fellas.

Is it too late in the season to spray it?

Applying lime will be easy enough.

Not too late for Celsius, I apply it throughout the summer.

Borrow a Boykin or some other long haired dog and let him run around in your yard to reduce the seed bank.

Sandspur likes disturbed soil and can be held down somewhat by religiously mowing so they can't head out. I'd burn my yard with fire or chemicals if that's what it took to get rid of them.

Or let your friends boykin bring sandspurs to an area that has never had them in the past….

Boy though, Celsius is expensive..I wait until June to start using it. I have been just using Trimec southern/speedzone on it until it gets too hot.

I just posted in the other thread for Feetz, the last two years i must have missed the bus on the winter pre to keep this shit out of my yard. Or is this the wrong time to hit it?

Next week I am going to spray it, but this one is making me scratch my head about how it comes back. I usually do the prodiamine in the fall for it with just one applciations.

I can’t light this yard on fire... the Edisto Fire department will beat the smoke detectors and the yankee Karens.

I’ll try speedzone and lime, and then the Celsius.
