    Default Temperature Gauge

I have a John Deere 5103 tractor that the gauge cluster has shorted out due to moisture. After researching it this is a very common issue with this model. The only gauge I really care about working is the temperature gauge so I want to just buy a temp. gauge and plug it into the temp. sending unit instead of spending $350-600 on a new cluster. From asking around I've been told that most temp. sending units are a pretty common thread?

    A few questions I have.

    1. Do I need an electrical or mechanical gauge?
    2. Is this a good gauge to use? I want to use one that has the actual temp. instead of just "hot and cold".

Or would something like this be better to go with?

I added mechanical temp and oil pressure gauges on my 4020. Will try to find a link.

Place in Midwest rebuilds those gauge clusters. Like ag electronics on something.

Thanks for the link. I had actually already sent them an email, waiting for a reply.

Thanks. After doing a lot more research and reading I also thought about oil pressure.

Looks like the 5103 already has a resistive sender in place that you could connect to a gauge not in the cluster for coolant temp.

Fuel level is resistive as well. I’ve got the E and F measurements for this somewhere but not sure where at the moment.

Take out factory sending unit. Should be a 1/4 or 3/8 pipe thread. Install a mechanical gauge from any parts house. Your cluster is no good so no alarms or alerts will work. Also some JD has a plugged hole on thermostat housing which could be used with a mechanical gauge.
