    Default Learned something new today

Some of you may already know this but I don't hunt much WMA and have never had it come up when I did. My older son got a ticket today for not having his gun in a case while driving out of a piece of WMA land this morning. Said he and his buddy had their guns in the back seat of the truck and unloaded when the DNR guy stopped them. Asked to see their guns and wrote them a ticket for not having them in a case. Said it was to prevent shooting birds from the truck. I'm not bitching, ignorance of the law isn't an excuse and the ticket was only $50 each. Honestly just had never heard of it and thought I would share it here for any of you that didn't know as well.

Yep, probably only knew this myself from a similar story of a friend getting a ticket long ago.

Gun case or in toolbox I believe are only 2 options of transporting firearm.

Only reason I was aware of it was from a dog hunt on Manchester national forest as they had it listed under guidelines with paperwork

I believe you'll find it written in the DNR hunting regs.

Glad to hear it was only a $50 fine for them.

It definitely is. He's 24 and was a little butt hurt about it but the rules is the rules. Relatively cheap lesson to learn that he probably won't forget. Plus he educated me from making the same mistake.

Wonder what a ticket would be for riding through the wildlife refuge with a loaded shotgun under the back seat in a truck?

    Asking for a friend.

    I learned via warning.

This has been many years ago now. I don't think I could even drive at the time. I was riding with a buddy a couple years older than I.

Punishable by fine, means legal for a price.

So a law that was created to keep people from breaking another law? Sounds about like every other gun control law.

Been in the regs book for a long time. I’m certain those rogue ass dog hunters are to blame

Surprised how many don’t read the WMA rules before hunting one.

Had a buddy get a ticket for this a few years ago. Got a gun case shortly after.
“Duck hunting gives a man a chance to see the loneliest places …blinds washed by a rolling surf, blue and gold autumn marshes, …a rice field in the rain, flooded pin-oak forests or any remote river delta. In duck hunting the scene is as important as the shooting.” ~ Erwin Bauer, The Duck Hunter’s Bible, 1965
