We fished yesterday and did not win any money. No monsters, just a box full of meat. It's pretty easy to get bored with dolphin, but they did put on a good show today. They were as aggressive as I have seen them in a while. Bites were large, teasers were hit hard, they rocketed across the spread several times, freejumping all over, chasing flyers. It would have been some good guy harvey material.

    From the other site:

"Fished the SCSSA tournament today with Boston Mike, Catfish Nick, and Split Tail. The dolphin bite was out of control. We couldn't get away from them. We had to jump up and down on the fish box at 10:30 AM to get them to fit and tried to run and look for a wahoo. Ran into more dolphin. We got "covered up" twice today with 8 fish on at once. Went 6 for 8 on one and 7 for 8 on another.

We saw dolphin chase flyers all over the ocean and even had a flyer headed to our boat. We watched the fish hot on the flyer's tail and it hit the water 10 yards from the boat and the fish swallowed him and then went to hang himself on our flat line. We had probably 6-8 teaser bites today. I even saw a dolphin nibbling on a turtle's fin.

Ended the day with 39 dorados (kept 22 and let 17 go including several gaffers). Unfortunately we had no tournament winners. Our biggest fish was 21 lbs. Had a lot in the upper teens.

Had 2 baits out of 66 left over when we pulled lines in at 3. Ocean was as calm as could be."

I bet catching one on an ultra-light would be a fight.

Fished out of Georgetown on Saturday with one of my buddies that runs "Reel Tight" charters and caught 11 dolphin, 1 who, 1 yellowfin. Biggest dolphin was 30 lbs. Good times - water was perfect.

Only a peckerhead calls a dolphin a Mahi. We ain't in Hawaii, bra. And if you ain't catching yellowfin by now, you pretty much don't know what you're doing. But that's alright, there's a lot of that going around...especially in Charleston.

There's a first time for everything TATE and if you keep using that gayest of all gay words, "mahi" like in your last post, you should go ahead and get used to it SWEET TATER Sosin.

Nothing is wrong with my hair (unless you heard otherwise and I just don't know yet). I got a memo that said that to fit in better in Charleston, I needed to grow it out, so just as followers do, I decided to grow it longer. It's in that inbetween stage right now where it looks like I am some homeless guy just trying to find a place to sleep for the night...

Anyway, I can say dorado, right? That sounds pretty cool. They call them "do do's" on Offshore adventure which I thought was pretty homo. But dorado is cool. I might even start calling them desperado's on my next report.

The YFT bit has been a little slow in Chucktown. Even most of the charter guys are having a hard time catching them.

You can say it all you want, but rest assured, I'll be there to redicule you. Listen up cheesedicks, we're in America here. To be specific, the Mid Atlantic seaboard. And last I checked, the common name for a dolphin is a fuckin dolphin. If you find it anywhere in a field guide, written in English, where the names Mahi and/or Dorado supercede the common American name dolphin, you let me know. Till then, stop posing. That particular excuse can be translated into "You Charleston girls suck at catching tuna".

And as far as the charter guys in Charleston are concerned, there ain't but one dude around there that can actually catch a tuna. The rest are nothing more than hacks with watered down SeaSchool captain's licenses who worry more about backing a boat into a slip than understanding the hows and whys of offshore fishing.

Speaking of pathetic, is that douchebag David Cost (aka squidly) still running around acting like a captain.

Oh yeah SWEETY, you've got me dead to rights on that one. You can just call me lightswitch from now on, mk.

i know the one captain who does catch the yft. bobby g. he use to mate a long time ago on my dads boat.

understand: dad is catching them. i have not. i have only been offshore 2 times this spring.

maybe ill be in them soon. my dad and brothers taught me everything i know and i can rig up a tuna bait. my favorite is a small jet head that runs sub surface in a straight line (so the tuna has a better chance of getting hooked and not missing the bait) ran behind a chain teaser with little tiny glitter deals. eyecatcher makes them or we make our own.

Maybe we could have a Mahi tournament,....kind of like the Tuna tournament we had a few years back.

Maybe we could call it........Skinnee Back and Let The Mahi Get On It Tourney.

What do you think? ............biggest single fish, largest catch, bonus points for other trash fish?

Winner take all? ....split the pot? Calcutta?

Blast off from one landing? Georgetown? Charleston? Edisto? Anywhere?
