    Default First Fawn

Went out yesterday to check on a camera that hasn't sent any pics in a few days and seen a doe with a new born. Isn't it kind of early?

That would put the does being bred around the first week of September.

I stopped trying to figure out the SC deer rut 25 years ago,
All I know is that the first chilly nights seem to get em fired up

Yep. After 34 years of pulling fetuses from does in Nov and Dec and aging them the mean conception date is usually around sept 24-25. Which will vary from one property to another depending on buck to doe ratio

Healthy does that lost their fawn will breed early. Those dawns create the 2nd rut. Nature's way of keeping the population up.

As many cameras as you run you should have pictures of those fawns being conceived.
