Default Zero Turn Opinions for 2-3 Acres

Any opinions on which brand/deck size for 2-3 acres thats 1.5 acre flat and the rest has some slope to it? I’ve been looking at 60” decks but is there much difference in size over 54” decks? Options for dealers in town are Spartan, Husqvarna, and Gravely. I can also get Cub Cadet or Bad Boy at Atwoods.

After doing a lot of research a few years ago I went with Ariens who owns Gravely. Ariens is the residential line while Gravely is the commercial.

I went with the IKON X - 52''. It has a deep fabricated deck that's thick as hell and commercial Kawasaki engine. It has tons of power. The only complaint I have is that it does not have a gas gauge.

Can’t answer the size question, but there is not much difference in brands at specific price points. I would buy whichever brand/model had the specs I wanted and could get serviced locally and quickly.

Out of the brands you mentioned a 60” Gravely would be my first choice. Toro, Scag & Exmark are cleaner cutting mowers IMO.
Spend the extra money on one with a commercial Kawasaki engine.

I've got a bad boy renegade 61" with the 36 hp vanguard. It is a beast. That said, it cuts like shit right now. I think the combo of it being so heavy and my new grass being so thin and spindly it just lays over. I've got right at 3 acres

Best thing to do is figure out how much money you want to spend, after that find a local dealer and see what they sell. Go to those dealers and sit on the mowers in that price range. Whichever feels the best is the one I'd buy

    I’ve got a 72” cut with 36hp and it’s a beast. I cut nearly 5 acres between 3 yards.

FIL has a Exmark and I’ve got a Husqvarna. Mine pales in comparison.

48 in snapper commercial model with Kawasaki engine. I cut 2 1/2 acres of grass during the warm season and grind up all the leaves during the fall. It's 20 years old and works like a top.

I have run alot of different makes and models as I do it for a living now. Currently running 61” Scag, 56” Exmark, 52” Kubota. All we will run is Kawasaki motors. There is a few things to consider when buying. How much land which you already know, slope, and how unlevel is the land you are cutting. For example i can cut my yard thats a solid acre faster with less chance of scalping with the 52” than the 61” because i have some small terraces and holes where the dogs dig. We are looking now at buying 3 new 52” scags since alot of yard sizes these days are getting smaller. If you want to buy one that is going to last i would go with scag, exmark, toro, kubota, heck even some of the comercial john deeres are nice. Main thing is Kawasaki.

Any decent mower will work for residential use. I’d get a Kawasaki motor on a mower from a local dealer that can service it if needed

Get 60” or more for that much grass. You’ll be happy. I cut 3 acres with 61” Spartan. That’s after cutting 10 years with 50” toro. Big difference.

I have a 60” Bad Boy ZT Elite that’s about 5 years old and I cut about 4 acres with it. I have no regrets or complaints about it.

JD 757 60” cuts my 3 acre front yard in under an hour. Has almost 3,000 hours and looks like it’s been through hell but the damn thing still runs and cuts like new. She’s a retired commercial mower.

I bought a Kubota Z724 with the Kawasaki and 54" cut last year. So far so good. I've run a lot of commercial mowers over the years and this is as good as any I've run and better than most. If you cut every week and have level ground it'll cut wide open and not miss a lick. May be more than you want to spend but they have been making these for almost 10 years so there are some used ones out there.

FIL had mulchers put on both his Toros. It’s a nice feature when grass isn’t too thick but slows you down otherwise. Not recommended.
