    Default NEW BOAT

Just sold my skeeter zx250 and getting ready to buy an aluminum rig i can hunt and fish out of. Been looking at excel, xpress, war eagle and prodigy. Really want an 18' so i can fish comfortable. Excel and prodigy both have a 1854 that i love. My questions are how will they handle big water? I live, hunt and fish on hartwell, russell and clarks hill. The two boats listed above come with a 60hp mercury or yamaha. How hard is it going to be navigating timber in mississippi, arkansas and missouri with a 18' boat and 60hp. Let me hear opinions

You want at least a 90 on an 18ft rig.

My dad just bought a war eagle 1860 with a 90 sho. I really like it a lot. Tons of room with the center console and rear bench sits 3 comfortably. Runs about 40 with 2 people and fishing gear. With a GPS, I pilot and power pole I think he was out the door at $33k. It’s got some beam though so I don’t know how it would do in timber.

    Truth.

I wouldn't buy a remote steer with intention of running timber frequently.

Handling big water and timber don't seem to jive.

Nope. That’s why you need to buy that one boat and hunt LA.

1854 with a tiller and kick plate is a great setup. Don’t overlook Lowcountry boats. I had a Lowcountry that did fine in the timber, just can’t get it in some of the tighter spots. If you go prodigy, get the 24” sides.

If money was no option I’d buy a Lowcountry Swamp Fox 1854 and hang a 90 on the back.
