I kill one if they decoy well and no other groups are around me to mess up, especially now that I have a dog that benefits from more practice. I mix the skinless breasts in with wood duck breasts and prepare them the same. I enjoy telling house guests after they're finished eating. There is minimal difference in taste when cooked to medium at most. Merganser breasts do have a denser texture though. I'd wager very few people that spread the "my dog wont even pick them up they're so nasty" garbage have ever tried to eat one.

I don’t really see it being wasteful. After all their food is chicken, beef etc.
I tried that with a Canada Goose. I brined it and carefully smoked it. When I cut off a little bit to taste, it was horrible so I cut off some for my dogs. They immediately turned up their noses at it. I haven't shot another goose since.

I basically just shoot ducks that taste good now...

Nothing, but a little olive oil, some maple syrup on this one, and maybe some salt, pepper, and garlic

I’m listening to an old Joe Rogan podcast with this guy that used to live North of the Artic circle in a 10x10 cabin. Dude was eating caribou stomach contents, moose colon and chasing wolves off of caribou carcasses to survive. Y’all just ain’t hungry enough.

I take some of that back... ringnecks, I don't exactly care to eat them, but I will shoot and eat them. Their skin is just horrid, don't care to pluck those things.
