How so? It's a wash...a liberal for a liberal. I would argue there's some risk for the Dems in this process, as Breyer is a reliable liberal. His replacement might not be.

Oh you can bet the nominee will be a reliable, far-left, progressive, extremeist, activist from the George Soros line. It will not change the balance, but it will likely rub a ton of intelligent independent voters the wrong way. I'm all for a D president nominating a justice with an ideology that aligns wit their ideology; that's the way the founders intended it to be. That said, all nominees should have the highest degree of judicial experience with an impeccable track record showing their blind adherence to the principles of and judgements falling within the constraints of the constitution; you can bet the farm that Brandon's pick will be far, far from that.

They can certainly try for that, but the politics are tough for them. Bernie and AOC are losing. The Dems are starting to realize they don’t have the mandate they want. So, they can try to push through a far left judge. But I think the best they can do is another true liberal like Breyer. And they could always end up with the Dem version of a Souter in that case.

I mean, all candidates should be given a fair shot right? Singling out the hire from the get go would be a no no in every other aspect of hiring processes.
