Default Sporting Clays around Charleston with Lessons

Does anyone have a recommendation for a place for my wife to learn to shoot clays, trap, and/or skeet?

She's good with a rifle and pistol and I've tried to teach her to use her shotgun but she can't hit shit and I can't spot the issue.

She wants to learn and I need someone better than I am to go through the technique with her.

Bluefield (Jacksonboro) is a really nice sporting clays venue. I'd give them a call about lessons. Partridge Creek (Ridgeville) has instructors that come through frequently and I think some can be attended by non-members.

If you want to hit someplace between St. Pete and CHS, check out John Woolley in Yulee, Fla. That would be a great way to break up the ride.

Mr. Chris Batha (Okatie) does fittings correctly with a try gun and patterning board. I would imagine Mr. Hemingway could help as well...

John Wooley (mentioned above) does gun fitting if you end up going that route.

Also US Open is at Backwoods in May. There will be many people there that can help if you can wait that long.

Recommend Ken Podraza at Backwoods. He provides Sporting Clays, Skeet, Trap, & Wingshooting Instruction, Shotgun Fitting, Stock Modifications, & Monthly Clinics. Very patient with Lady shooters.

I provide shooting instruction either at my house where I have 8 Promatic traps or at a gun club. I can do lessons at Hermitage Farms, Rocky Creek, Clinton House, Palmetto Shooting Complex and occasionally get down to Backwoods. With over 100k registered targets, numerous wins in competition, I've been doing lessons since about 2015.

When it comes to gun fittings, there are varying degrees of gun fit. Some can be as simple as moving an adjustable comb or using shims to get it close enough. That may take 20 - 30 minutes and verifying it on a patterning board. Or it can a full day fitting where you are building a new stock. However, if the person is new to shotgunning and they don't have a consistent mount, it can be pretty much futile as most people will evolve their gun mount quite a bit as they improve their skill.
