    Default Wrecked Truck ?

My 17 year old was hit from behind on I-20 yesterday. He was in a 2006 Tundra double cab 4x4. I bought the truck new. Looks like a back quarter and a bumper. State Farm already wants to total it and come pick it up. I have never been in this situation and looking for advice.

Nothing was wrong with the truck before the accident. No way they will give me what I could have sold the truck for on Saturday.

    Any suggestions? Or recommendations?

I assume State Farm is the at fault drivers Ins company?

Get 3 book values from a dealer, carmax etc- if in great condition tell your adjuster either pay top value- or you will sue them via your ins company- don't forget about a rental until a replacement can be found and possible future pain and suffering- DON'T CLOSE YOUR CLAIM.

If totaled, you should have an opportunity to buy it back and fix -then get a salvage title- might be worth it- sometimes not- I have done it both ways

Had a ranger that was in a similar situation.
Insurance paid me a good price to total it. Bought it directly back from them for a couple hundred bucks.
Fixed the damage and it gets used as a daily driven work truck to this day.

Glad your child is ok. Don't accept any offer first and fore most. Keep the claim open....do all of the above and your own research online for prices of comparable trucks. Get a detailed summary of the quote with model and trim level specs they used in their comparison. Review in detail and be prepared with data to submit for them to rereview. They likely use a 3rd party firm that does the valuation. In my recent experience you really only get one fair shot at countering with details. If it were me do not just tell them to "reassess" without providing them data and details of what you think it should be worth with facts supporting it. It'll take time but is worth it. It can be a decent process if managed reasonably with facts and not emotions. It will TAKE TIME...

I'll speak to some previous experience (not wrecked truck related) if you dont have a dash cam on your vehicle, get one. Had a family member drive through an intersection on a green light (after stopping on red and waiting for the light to change) another driver ran the red and t boned her and ultimately hit another vehicle. An "expert" witness that shared similar traits as the driver that ran the red stuck around to tell the officer that my family member went before the light was green... no video on the intersection, the second car that was hit shared the traits also and refused to say one way or another if the light green. The super cop on the scene couldn't tell us why the "witness"s word weighed more than my family member's but marked her at fault none the less.

Yeah, I’d make sure I had a correct market value on it. Tundras are priced high right now.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

If you are anywhere near Columbia, I got a guy and he hates State Farm.
He sued them for me and it was wonderful.
    They know him

Assuming they repair the vehicle, I would also file for diminished value (the value your vehicle loses as a result of being in prior accident if you were to sell it).

It is not necessarily a law in every state but I filed for it when my tundra that was a year old got hit. Ended up being about 4K on top of the repairs.

    Glad everyone was ok

If you don't want it totaled, tell the adjuster up front. They usually will work with you.

They gave my son a fair price for his Tacoma. Buy back was more than I was willing to give. Them car fixer uppers/salvagers love them Toyota's around here.

They likely want to move it to the salvage yard to stop storage cost. Even if it is moved to the storage yard it does not mean it is totaled. If it is totaled values are higher than I have ever seen. Don’t listen to the peanut gallery, listen to people like Catdaddy.

Yes, the other insurance ( State Farm) is paying for it. Thank you guys. This has been crazy. I was surprised that State Farm has been this way. The lady said they would need to tow my truck and let me know what they would give me after an appraisal. Kendrick’s in Augusta has always done body work for me. It hasn’t been a big deal. They went straight for the total without even looking at it. They said it isn’t company policy to fix like and kind.

Thanks again. It speaks a lot about a website. I knew I could ask about it, and you guys never disappoint.
