    Default Ducks

Saw these this morning driving to check a logging crew. Roadside pond between Florence and Hartsville. Maybe this cold has pushed some down. Mallards and teal best as I could tell without binocs.

That could be a murder hole.... plenty of cover in the back corner to hide in.

There a better looking one on the other side of the road from it.

I would speculate that if they were wild ducks they just stopped in for a rest and a little foraging. I'd also bet they won't be there tomorrow.

I’d tend to agree. Figured they were using something very shallow that froze over night, or they were just taking a short break. Don’t think that was a long term destination. Just not often you see that in SC.

If they are where I think they are, the mallards probably aren't wild. The landowner didn't want us to shoot the geese in that field because it might spook their released birds in a pond toward the swamp. Teal are good to see though.

Is that they same people that have the dove hunts down the road?

May very well be release birds. That was honestly my first thought. Hard to trust a mallard to be wild in SC. There were some teal but majority mallards.
