    Default Ice Storm Prep

What things would I not normally think of to have on hand? Tricks to make things easier with kids. We don’t have a generator. I probably should invest in one, but I don’t have one, and I’m not searching one out today. Gas hot water heater, gas fireplace and gas range, so I’m in pretty good shape there.

Probably hard wired if it is. Not sure if it would be up to code, but you may want to look at having it wired for a receptacle in the future. You could then buy a small generator and run it when you needed to and fridge/freezer some during extended outages. Would also be able to charge electronics.

Just picked up 40 pound of fresh sausage from the meat processor. Case of beer and pack of C cells and we are good.

Or is it controlled electronically? If power goes out I don’t think those work

    Chili on the stove.

    Potato soup on the stove.

    Cornbread in oven.

Heavy blanket to segregate the house if we lose power.

Enough wood to bbq an elephant.

If you're on a well fill up the bathtub so you can flush the toilet.

Almost every new hotel has generator backup now. Fill your truck up with fuel tonight, throw a chainsaw in the flat bed, then drive to the closest hampton inn and suites if you lose power. Bonus points if you have one circled that has an indoor pool for the kids.

I have a wood burning fireplace in my house, but thanks to this generation of home designers who love open floor plans and 30’ ceilings I’d need that plus 10 kerosuns to keep frost off my windows.

Our contingency plan is to go to a hotel. I already have a room booked on Sunday for the wife and kids since I’ll be at work. If they don’t need it so be it.
