I watched that yesterday and it got me to thinking it would be nice to have a pack of beagles if I could keep them at 2thDoc's house..........

I’ve seen that video before but I thoroughly enjoyed watching it again.

One thing I couldn’t help but noticing was that the rabbit woods in that video look a lot different than what I’m using to hunting in SC

You'd come out better finding a buddy that has dogs. It's so hard to find places to go now. Luckily we have a few larger tracts of land that we can hunt multiple times during the year. If it wasn't for that, I don't know what we would do.

How big of a tract do you need to run rabbit dogs?

It really depends on the cover. We've got one little spot that's about 10 acres but the whole 10 acres is briars and privet hedge. They usually don't have a chance to get stretched out in there. I guess 30 acres or so at a minimum under normal conditions.

50 acres is plenty big with a small pack that stay together.

The thicker the cover, the smaller the area you need.

Since when is rabbit hunting a lost art? I know folks young and old that hunt several times a week, more doing it now than I remember 20 years ago.

I see quite a few rabbit hunters on public land every time I get out..not lost on them!

Is it a lost art? Go to a Hardee's at 7 am on Martin Luther king day and you'll see 5-6 trucks full of beagles.

I thought the same thing, but my buddy (I use his dogs) told me that he gets at least 4-5 calls a week after deer season for people wanting to “use” his dogs.

This was one of our hunts last year.
