    Default New DP coon traps

I have been coyote trapping for a few years but decided to add some coon traps to the mix this year. They should be here the first of the week. For those of you that use them, do you dye and wax them, spray paint them, or just go with them right out the box. Whats best for anchoring them? Hooking to a tree with cable or using rebar stakes?

I pulled my coyote traps out the shed and going to dye and wax this week. Just wasnt sure if the coon traps needed to go in the wax pot while i had it out.

I use them straight out the box and cable or chain to a tree. Honeybuns for bait.

What he said. Doesn't take much tree to hold a coon either.

If you're dipping the others, dip the dog proof as well. It's not needed but will not hurt. Dip them last so the oil/grease doesn't affect the other traps.

I use anchors across the board. I drive dog proof shallow.

No way I will waste a honeybun on a nasty coon. I use dry cat or dog food

Piece of loaf bread smothered in pack of koolaid. A person can smell it at 100yds. They will come from far and wide.

Spray paint them, cable to tree, dry cat food or marshmallows and grape koolaid powder.

    Default New DP coon traps

I rig mine up with 3’ ft piece of cable with a loop on the end. I find a small tree near where I want to setup. Run the trap thru the loop to secure it around the base of the tree.

My dukes come painted. Use them right out the box. Cat food and a red solo cup over it to weather proof the bait and it peaks their curiosity.
