    Default Kids or the elders?

As a child, when we would have church gatherings or family reunions, the elders always got in line and ate first. As the years have gone on, I’ve kept that same thought process but constantly get kick back from my Sister in laws who say kids should always go first so the parents can eat in peace….
As a kid, I got to pick over what was left….I always thought everyone followed that same respect!?!

Me personally the women make their plate then any male older then me then it’s my turn. I can’t stand to see a grown man be the first to make a plate.

    This.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home. -Tecumseh-

What you defining as a kid?

Man that blesses the food goes first, typically the eldest man of the family present or preacher. Elderly next and then parent makes plate for toddlers and below. First come first serve after that.

I don't care in what order it goes.

Just keep your grubby mitts off the fish, turkey nuggs, fries and hush puppies till the cooking is done. Drive by snacking is for food preppers only and I will whack your hand after a verbal warning.

i usually see mamas fix kids plate first. could honestly care less who eats first though. maybe in harder times when there might not have been enough to go around it would have mattered

Pretty much this is exactly how I was raised.
We had Christmas dinner at my in-laws. Father in law is the oldest and he blessed the food. He went ahead and fixed his plate and started eating. His middle daughter lost it and says her 4 year old and 9 year old always goes first so she can get them eating before anyone else.
I have a 8 and 4 year old my self and get the fact they can be pestering but as a father of two boys, I’ve always told them to wait until their mother and I fix there plate when it’s our turn. Never really discussed it, just figure the older, host or the ladies would always go first. Not the 9 year olds
We have a big family with about 10 cousins under the age of 10

At the end of the day I always try to go last so I won’t be in the middle of all the vultures ahead of me. When she was bitching, I immediately said I was going to ask the SCDUCKS brain trust but lost track….So here we are

We self-select - whoever hungriest gets in line first and encourages someone to ask the blessing.

The Elders first, and I sit with them, and we talk while my wife makes my plate and brings it to me- this used to cause a lot of ribbing from her siblings (11) and their spouses- but that stopped 20 years ago.

Then Mommas make plates for the little kids and seat them at the kids table- they don't eat much, and it gets them out of the way.

    Then ever one else.

The question was elders or kids.

    With the elders, womeenzs first.

If the kids are old enough to make their own plate, they get their ass’ to the back.
