25-year-old bourbon shots will help benefit Kentucky tornado victims

A bottle of rare Kentucky bourbon will travel across South Carolina to different restaurant locations this holiday season to benefit Kentucky tornado victims.

Starting Dec. 26 at Halls Chophouse Charleston, shots from a bottle of rare Buffalo Trace 1995 O.F.C. bourbon will be available for $250 each, according to a release from Hall Management Group.

The bottle will then move to other Halls Chophouse locations in Summerville, Columbia and Greenville over the course of the week.

All proceeds will go to the Western Kentucky Tornado Relief Fund that was set up by Gov. Andy Beshear in response to the storms that ripped through the state earlier this month.

"Our Halls team was deeply saddened to see the devastation wreaked by the tornados in Kentucky and immediately started to explore ways that we could help the victims in this trying time," Tommy Hall, owner and CEO of Hall Management Group, said. "We are excited to offer this top-of-the-line, vintage Kentucky bourbon to our guests while providing much-needed assistance to a worthy cause."

Mickey Finn’s, one of South Carolina’s largest liquor wholesalers, and owner Rick Havekost partnered with the restaurant group in the effort.

Buffalo Trace Distillery, in Frankfort, Kentucky, announced the rare release of 1,500 bottles of its vintage 1995 O.F.C. bourbon in November 2020, marking only the fourth O.F.C. vintage offered for sale. The O.F.C. vintage-dated bourbons take their name from the original name of the distillery, Old Fashioned Copper.

The 25-year-old bourbon is bottled in a crystal decanter with inlaid copper lettering nestled inside a wooden display case with a provenance card and a list of happenings from 1995 to put the age of this special expression in context.

Tasting notes for this bourbon describe cherry cordial on the nose followed by caramel and slightly smoked-oak. Dark chocolate, tobacco leaves and dates are found on the palate, followed by a lingering finish of leather, black pepper and cinnamon.

Last year, a bottle of 25-year-old Pappy Van Winkle bourbon traveled across Halls Chophouse locations around South Carolina to benefit Happy Wheels, a nonprofit providing toys to hospitalized children across South Carolina.
