Default Ended on a good note

5F16252D-2509-4BF9-A5FF-7E4AFCFB9246.jpgHad a great hunt tonight. Been chasing this big 8 pt all year.....hard. He was with a nice 11 point early on and they separated during the rut. They joined back up 3 weeks ago and have been sparring on the corn pile on and off for the last three weeks but always come in together. I have so many daylight pics of this deer this season that it is ridiculous. He has given me the slip all season but now that he has quit chasing tail and got back on a feeding pattern, he has become patternable. I finally figured out where he was bedding after him not showing every time I hunted him. Was was laying beside the road I walk in on and was monitoring me coming in and out the hardwood drain. I got in early today after the rain and walked 3/4 mile around behind him and came to my stand from a different direction. It worked. At 4:50, he came running down the trail I normally walk in on followed by his 11 point friend. I saw him at 55 yards and bleated to stop him at 30 yards. I drilled him and he ran 7 yards and toppled over. The 11 pt stood there at 42 yards wondering what happened. I drew on him too but decided to give him a pass for my kids. From the time I saw him until I shot him was about 12 seconds. He was dead 20 seconds after that. Great end to a great season with a muzzy moment. Was nice to see him die at 38 yards from the tree.A5811041-9592-4E9F-BE9A-0FFDFF33227C.jpg

Well done! Prett buck! Often amazes me how fast an arrow can kill them.

Awesome kill. I am hunting a deer that is doing the exact same thing I believe. Very cool to hear your tactic. He sure looks like he's run down from the rut

I have only seen him on the hoof once this season. He came in on me about 5 minutes too late on Oct 18 and I just couldn’t see my pins well enough. I can tell you he has lost a tremendous amount of weight since then.

I’d of killed him dead too. Congrats on that one.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Congrats. Nice deer. Bucks will watch an access road and a field edge.
I did the exact same thing this year on a real big 8 I had jumped twice on a road in the same spot. Walked all the way around him one night when I had a good wind and he walked down the road I’d be using to access right at dusk.

    Great buck and good work.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home. -Tecumseh-
