Default SC Record Book Deer by Calendar Date

I had to do a little clean-up on the data. There were a lot of deer on the first day of Sept, Oct, Nov, Dec that I removed. I suspect that if he DNR or the applicant didn't know the exact day of the month they just put in on the first. I did a 5-day rolling average to smooth the curve a little and threw out Greenville, Oconee and Pickens counties because of Clemson (and they have a much different profile for when they kill deer). I also threw out Mickey Herring's giant 176 1/8" non-typical killed on September 31, 1997.

Interesting. Reckon that spike could be due to much of the states muzzleloader/rifle season starts then?

That's what I was thinking. But the big drop around Thanksgiving...can't be that many duck hunters stopping dear hunting.

Is there anyway to research the state record book by a hunters name?
The few times I’ve tried to look in the DNR site it’s just a been a long file that didn’t have a way to filter anything ( or maybe I wasn’t smart enough to figure out how)

The reason I ask, at a hunt club work day there were a few guys making fun of of one our old timers that wasn’t there and going on about how much he liked to talk. They tried to drag me into the conversation and I told them if they were smart they might liste a little more closely to what he was saying and they might learn something. They asked why and I told them it was because he had at least two ( that I’m sure of) and maybe a 3rd in the record book. They weren’t sure wether to believe me or not and I tried to pull it up to prove it to them but couldn’t figure out an easy way to navigate the information

It is an Adobe document so you can do a name search.

True. I can see the logic if it were right after thanksgiving. Most of the NC guys I know that hunt SC stop hunting after thanksgiving

what I'm seeing is that a lot of big bucks are killed at the beginning of the Rut.

Thinking with the wrong head will get an otherwise wily critter Killed.

    Am I overthinking this?

Our rut activity picked up the last 2 weeks in Aiken Co. Last year it was early, all our big deer were killed in late September. Weird.
