That shot should have resulted in a dead deer in a short distance, bullet failed to do its job. When I was shooting factory ammo out of the 6.5 the 120gr GMX hornadys never failed me. Glad you found him!

That's bullet failure. I'd change to a quality bullet. TTSX, ELD-X, OR Accubond. Glad you found him, and good for you and the dog.

If that’s the entry, either move it back a touch or about 4-5 inches forward. The shoulder blade is shaped like a backwards C. A few inches forward and it’s DRT.

I have shot fusion bullets with great success in my .300 wsm (165 g) and my son’s .308 (150 g). Most everything DRT.
I started shooting 140g fusions when I got my 6.5 cm, and had nothing but problems. No blood trails, running 100-250 yards with no trail. I switched to the 123 grain gmx and every shot is either DRT or a short bloodbath.

After converting meters to yds I am shocked that deer toted that. I'd say that bullet failed and didn't expand. Luckily you made a good enough shot for it not to be a deciding factor. Congrats

I’ve had problems with 120gr ttsx Barnes out of the 6.5, zero expansion pass throughs with little to no blood. I switched to Sierra HPBT game Kings and they have been lights out. I’ve got a box of 100 ELD-x’s as backups if I run out of the sierras.

We have not had good luck with Fusions exiting- ever. Lots of DRT but never an exit.

I agree with that but what if that’s the only bullet entrance?

He walked out on the left side of the crossing.
Facing the deer head on, wound is on the left side.

He would of had to come out on the right for that to be an exit wound.

How far was the shot? If you said it I couldn't find it. Had a similar situation today

Very strange. Bullet should have been at the appropriate velocity to expand. Who knows. You found him. That's all that matters

Dear god the amount of ballistic ignorance in this thread. If the bullet exits you fucked up and should stick to bow hunting or golf because you’re too stupid to understand how a bullet works.
You made a shitty shot and want to blame the caliber. Learn the anatomy of a deer and how a bullet works. Or just continue to be an ignorant dip shit. It’s up to you

Seeing these soulless vanilla ice lookin Yankees on a bassboat is worse than watching a woman get her implants taken out. It's just wrong. Get back in your Lund and go back to infisherman.
