    Default Instigator's Maiden Voyage

Left outta St. Johns Marina about 8:00 Saturday morning. Ran out at around 45 MPH and caught the usual bottom suspects, including a nearly-20# grouper. Snapper were thick, even though they're endangered. Ran back in at 55MPH and hit a top speed of 68 with 6 grown men and a full tank. Nice first trip. Sorry for the life-sized pictures. The end.

Love to hear them Merc's eat. The video's an easy 55MPH. We hit 68MPH comin' back through the harbor with six men and two kids and plenty of fuel. The hype is real:

Mercury has come a long way. I've heard they hired some engineers from Yamaha......could be wrong on that.

My Grandfather (a long time ago) used to say the way to find a good Mercury motor is to take it off the transom, throw it in the water and see if it floats. Ha!

    Very nice boat.

That's some vittles for sure. What was the fuel burn on the way out?

Don't know, JAB, but here're some Rhodan numbers. Pretty impressive:

I am sure I would be suitably impressed if I knew what that was.

Fair enough. Them numbers just mean the big trolling motor works is all.

Is this another of Rubberhead’s WTBD frequency charts?

That's wave height, swell height, swell period, swell direction, wind wave height, wide wave period, wind wave direction for the abbreviated ones.

Basically means that the wave conditions were very crappy. We never saw another boat all day. Wind was 22+knts the day before, and 15-17knts when we left the dock. 4 footers (WVHT) at 5 seconds (APD) is a very steep chop that most people would not bottom fish in. My 6 year old fell asleep in that on the way out and the Rhodan anchor held the boat all day (once we figured it out). It's a game changer. Wind died out after lunch time, and it laid down a little in the afternoon, but still fairly sloppy.
