They do. I work on the old ones a lot. About to start work on a '63 Simplex. I love old minibikes and gokarts.

Get them the Chinese Tao 110s. Very safe and you can control them remotely mine started riding them when they were 3. They eventually got bored with them and started riding my Honda 300 and foreman 450. After constant scolding from my wife and mom about that I got them both rzr 170s from Dhall. It's tough to let them go but my boys motor skills developed so fast and I think a lot of that came from riding so much and at an early age. Plus it teaches them responsibility. If you're going to ride and get it muddy you're going to wash it off before you put in in the garage. You do Something crazy and irresponsible and wreck it out, you will help me fix it. Worked out very well

Both of mine since they were 4 have had the polaris 50's, my 8 year old now drive's everything from my 1000 ranger to my toyota around the farm.
The polaris 50's are very stable not heavy enough to hurt one because they have rolled them over several time.

Start them out on bikes, they'll learn to pick a line vs pegging a 4 wheeler throttle.
Visor Guy nailed it: ride, wash & wrench, all part of the plan.
    PW50 - XR80/100 - YZ 80 - KX&KDX250's - CR&CRF250's - CRF450&X's - FE570 - KTM500
Bunch of street bikes tossed in.
    TRX250 - 2 Rincons
    Now a pair of KRX1000's
    Stay involved
Boys are in their 30's and we still roll a few times a month.

Our RZR gets a lot more riding time than I ever thought.
