I went up to Canada this week and brought MarshChicken with me. I managed to connect on a decent elk, a good black bear, and a chocolate colored black bear.
Bugles weren’t plentiful except for the day I killed. Heard around 30 bugle, thinking at least 4 bulls within hearing distance. My bull piped up at about 150 yards away while trying to close the distance on another bull we heard. Staring contest for about 15 minutes with no shot opportunities, thought we would lose him, but ended up getting a shot in a tight window. He went down about 100 yards away out of sight. Shot was extremely steep, and only 85 yards. Bullet entered the shoulder, and exited the spine. Fun, and tough hunt. I walked about 30 miles of river valley hills and a nonstop natural stair stepper of blowdowns.
Bear hunt was quick and fun. Bears in the ag fields, dropped two within 30 minutes. Lot different than the elk hunt. Two good rugs heading home and a lot of meat going to the freezer.
Now it’s time to focus on birds.
