There is a difference between being informed and making the best decisions you can AND being gullible and/or crazy enough to believe and perpetuate certain things

Very true statement. Just leave room in your mind for people asking legitimate questions about the conflicting 'facts' that the 'experts' keep putting out there. There's no way to make the best decisions without being able to ascertain what the real facts are.
