Default Good day at the club

We had a good day at the club on Saturday. On the first drive, a buddy of mine turned his beagles out around a curve from me about 100 yards away. They went about 15 yards and plowed up a small 8 point and it barreled straight to me and my son. I saw him standing 20 yards away in the cutdown staring at me. I told me son to shoot, but he could see over the trees. The load of 3” OOO to the throat was more than he could bear. We caught all the beagles and took them 50 yards behind be and released them again and they went about 20 yards and plowed up another good buck and that chase went about 200 yards until another buddy shot a 170 lb old mature 6 pt with a beautiful chocolate rack. We gathered up and went to the next block. I released my hounds this time and they jumped about 100 yards in. They split and a doe came back across me and my son and the next stander came down to help us gather dogs. As soon as we caught them, the other half of the pack put a large buck across his now empty stand. We rushed around the to the other side and the buck made a complete circle and checked everyone out. By now the 3 dogs were getting tired and not barking nearly as frequent but I watched them on GPS and knew where they were heading. My son and I jumped in and went to a nearby fire line. We heard him coming with the beagles in tow. He popped out at 30 yards and my son obliged him with a load of 20 ga 3” 2buck. He dropped on the spot and he was my son’s largest body buck. 197 lb 8 pt. At this point, my beagles were spent and we headed to the processor and home to watch football. He was happy and I am proud of the young man he is becoming and quite the hunter as well.

    Awesome.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home. -Tecumseh-
