Yeah I hear bird shot is a real pain when its raining down on you. I hear it sounds like rolling thunder followed by hot lead. Some scary stuff for sure. I just hope they can get some reprieve from the onslaught of lead and loud sounds this weekend. Maybe even a bacon wrapped bird or two would help people love free food.
“Duck hunting gives a man a chance to see the loneliest places …blinds washed by a rolling surf, blue and gold autumn marshes, …a rice field in the rain, flooded pin-oak forests or any remote river delta. In duck hunting the scene is as important as the shooting.” ~ Erwin Bauer, The Duck Hunter’s Bible, 1965

It's probably not pronounced the way it's spelled.

I would have told them to piss up a rope had I not been doing anything illegal. Calling the hunt would not have even been an option.

I talked to someone that was hunting this field this morning and from the sound of it is was a barn burner, and most were limited in 30-45 minutes so I thinking calling off the hunt wasnt that big of a deal

    Nobody was pelted with shot…

But, hunters can decide not to shoot towards houses either.

I hunt several fields where we can’t shoot a certain direction because it WILL rain pellets down on some old lady’s house.
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.

On the other hand, I was invited to a hunt by a now long retired gamewarden in Bog's AO who gave everyone instructions to "make it rain" on his neighbors.

    Times, they are a changing...

I used to hunt crows in a pecan orchard that butted up to a trailer park. That was fun. Killed 45 one morning and I'm certain it sounded like rain coming down in the trailer park. Cripples went straight for the trailer park. Pretty sure the cats ate well back then.

Heard the field in question was loaded with birds and checked by DNR and Sheriffs office before the hunt- don’t know if that’s true or not. Anyway, I’ve had the same field for 25+ years, a guy built a house on the land beside mine about 3 years ago. House is directly in the normal flight path coming into the field. When he was building I went over, introduced myself, and told him we have a field next door (within a 100 yards) and we shoot it regularly during September, he understood. He did put a metal roof on his house, 1st few hunts sounded absolutely horrible when we rained down on it. We adjusted a little and made sure everyone knew don’t shoot that direction even though it’s tough sometimes, Never had a complaint from him. Hope it continues that way, but recently noticed someone is building a house across from his we will see. I shot doves in multiple locations around greenwood over the years that are now housing developments or retail locations. Times change I guess and not always for the best.
