Had a great week in Colorado. Killed my biggest antelope on Monday morning on my buddies property. He came to water at 10:50am and I buried the arrow to the fletching on a frontal shot at 25 yards. Tuesday morning I started looking for deer, found an absolute brute of a 5x5 and after a 3 hour climb up a rock ledge and a 3 hour stalk I ended up 10 yards from him bedded in a mine shaft. Tossed a rock in and he came barreling out and stopped at 36 yards. I shot an inch or two in front of his brisket. Somewhere along the way I hit my sight enough to knock it off. Last time I saw that buck he was a mile away running in the opposite direction. Yesterday I went to a piece of public land where I’ve been seeing a lot of does and spotted this buck right before dark. The plan this morning was to try to beat him up to the ledge he was bedded on. At 6:37 this morning and only 200 yards from the truck we bumped into each other. My first shot a 64 yards hit him far back, the second shot at 54 yards went through both lungs and he ran straight down the draw towards the truck to make for an easy drag out. It’s taken me 3 years to draw a Colorado deer tag and was well worth the wait. The taxidermy bill this year is going to suck. Now it’s time to catch some smallmouths tomorrow before I start the two day drive back home.
