Default OOS / family road trip vehicle opinions

Kicking around the idea of getting a large SUV as to be the OOS - family road trip- boat hauler.

What are pros and cons of below:

    1) 2007-2012 Tahoe Suburban…prob aim at 120-150k miles….I know AFm needs to be deleted but at these miles might be too late for all that

    2) 2007-2011 Denali with 6.2 same miles

    3) 2003-2006 Suburban with 130-160k miles

Open to other options as well

If it’s just for family road trips, 4x4 passenger van.

We have a 2016 suburban. It’s done well the 2 or 3 years we’ve had it.

I had a 2007 suburban and a 2016. Both did really well pulling 6k pounds but With gas 3.00 a gallon, I averaged about 8-10 mpg while trailering.

The suburbans are great though, just go for it

I love my quad cab tundra for road trips. I have a bed cover to keep all of our stuff dry. The bed holds more than any SUV trunk. Plenty of room in the cab for 2 kids. Pulls my flats boat like its not even there. If more than 2 kids I guess you have to go SUV. We take the tundra over my wife’s Lx 570 for road trips every time.

If you need even more room for gear get a camper shell.

I'd love to find a diesel Excursion in decent shape.

Out of that list, 03-06 Suburban/Yukon XL hands down.

Krt has lots of info in his vehicle forum threads.

Can’t go wrong with those IMO. AFM can be an issue, even on some engines that don’t use afm but are still built with the afm components.

2)2007-2009 Denali 6.2 do not have afm
    2010-2013 Denali 6.2 HAVE afm.

3)Some of the 03-06 engines can also have afm. Mainly the 6.0L “Vortec max”

Anything 2500/8lug vehicles are exempt and have the iron block 6.0

Summit racing has good info on each LS variant

Expeditions are more comfortable for backseat riders than any other large suv on the market. I come from a big family and have experience with all of them. If it were me that’s what I would get.

Lots of shit out there for sale..

-2006 z71 burb with 144k miles……has 5 lights on dash that could be anywhere from harnesses to transmission
    -1999 Lx 470 with 220k miles…….entire AHC system needs work/replacing….$$$$$$$
-2004 Z71 tahoe……engine bay has had more monkeys in it than a zoo

In the $6-15k range lots of shade tree mechanic rebuilds and stuff.

Did let a 06 sequoia limited get away from me

Looked at another burb tonight…has a CEL and a msg that states “stability system
disabled” on message screen …also has tire pressure light on

Easy fix or no? 5.3 engine in a 2005 130k miles

Boards make it sound like everything from a simple battery issue to a abs module to putting the truck in limp mode

My 2011 5.3 Silverado had that error code. It was the gas pedal that went bad. Plug and play fix for $160.

Mine had that same code and it was from when we snapped a tire sensor off when changing the ball joints. I like it better without abs
