And to be clear, I have absolutely no dog in the fight and don't know what the "right" answer is. Thus, the question.

Only one who wins in this case is the law firm. Money will not bring their child back, and will never fill that void. However, certain people do need to be held accountable. How that happens I am unsure.
Where is the lawsuit for the men who were arrested for XYZ and sent to the Birmingham iron mines after slavery was abolished?
Yeah this will surely cause change & heal everyone... Give me a break.
The attorney states his law office will go after eight defendants:
Daniel Defense, the gun manufacturer the gunman used
Oasis Outback, the shop where the shooter picked up the gun
Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District Police Department
Uvalde Police Department
Uvalde County Sheriff's Office
Texas Department of Public Safety
Border Patrol
Gunman's uncle, who drove him to the gun shop
hypocrisy abounds these days.
lots of gluttony and greed.
its unsavory and why i hope HS lets me on his island.
can you put a price tag on happiness to replace a child?
i think not
So, if i had to answer the question, I'd say excessive
Ugh. Stupid people piss me off.
Looking at the list of defendants it seems perfectly clear that this has nothing to do with justice. Scum bag attorney is just looking for a big paycheck, justice be damned.
Sue the shooter. He's the one responsible.

I don't think all those combined can get the blood suckers close to $27B. Aim high I guess.
Maybe so high so it will get tossed out of court. He is definately casting a wide net. If he wins he has a big payday if tossed he looses very little. The shooter has nothing to get so he is not included.

The person that committed the crime is at fault. All this nonsense will just get tied up in the legal system for a decade or so. The only ones that will walk away with a smile is the lawyers.
not one of those officers that stood around while those kids were killed will be out $1. If (BIG IF) the police departments are held financially liable, it will be covered by insurance. So the only people it will cost is the taxpayers (parents of the victims)
the only entity to stand to gain is the attorney that will charge up to 50% of any settlement PLUS expenses. Also if they can prove to the court that "significant change" was made as a result of the suit, the attorney can petition for an additional % of the settlement or judgement.
blood. sucking. scum.

Can not get blood out of a turnip , I assume little to zero assets so waste of time. Can not spend judgements
Have long time client that has a $387K judgement against former employer(counter suit , LONG story ) . Not worth paper it is written on
I am sure all that will happen is liability insurance policies will payout max of policy and that is it. Most municipalities, at least i know SC does if I am correct, have a max amount they can be held liable for. (SC is/was $600K ) Wonder if something similar in TX , I am sure there is a reason state governments set this limit
Still sucks for those that got sucked into this suit , it will cost them legal fees regardless
As for amount (yes it sucks and my heart hurts for all affected ) $27B is excessive. Like to know how they came up with this figure
