My ongoing build of Sabine Versatile. This was the most ideal boat I could find for the shallow and often oyster filled northern gulf where I live now (also moonlighting as transportation for duck hunting central and south Louisiana). Several people expressed interest in this boat so here it is.

    Looks good!

Haven't gotten a good look at the bottom of one before, id imagine they'll be adding strakes to it?

Fort Polk, my free time is Toledo Bend or Sabine NWR. Once I get this boat delivered will spend more time on upper Texas coast

No, I discussed this with a guide that runs one and noted it has minimal slide in turns and with the tabs they are not needed. This boat is designed to be slid over very shallow bars and flats of the Texas coast.

This was my one hesitation but in discussions with others and the owner I was reassured with the performance of the running surface.

    Little over 600 lb hull.

Compare that to a Beavertail mosquito which is similar in size is about 540 lbs, a Caron fiber Chittum is about 350lbs.

My boat is basically completed…. However after weekly promising the Tohatsu motor was only delayed 1-2 weeks, then 1-2 weeks more, etc… the head of US sales informed my builder this morning it looks like April is soonest a shipment of Tohatsu 60s will be available from Asia. He believes has lead on a Mercury 60 but not sure if it is worth it as it is 1.5-2 k more expensive and more importantly a lot heavier.

    Thanks Biden and California.

Straight from US Tohatsu VP. For the 60hp short shaft for the entire country will get 1 in April and possibly up to 8 in July. NO units at all before that. Looks bleak for other units as well.

Going with Mercury as builder has 1 on had that he had reserved for his new carbon build. Not thrilled but better than waiting another 6 months minimum but likely longer. The weight is why I chose Tohatsu to begin with.
