    Default School and masks

Can a county school district contradict the governors order from last spring about opting out of mask mandates?

Well Newberry just sent out a phone call saying they were required to wear masks now.

In short it’s complicated. My understanding is a county can make their own mandate but they run the risk of losing state funding by doing so, if they use state funds to enforce the mandate. The courts will have to decide what it means to enforce the mandate with state funds and whether a proviso can be used by the state legislature to prohibit a municipalities mask mandate.

We passed a one year law preventing public schools from requiring vax or masks as a condition of face to face teaching. Unfortunately there are no penalties unless we decide to affect their budget in the future..

No penalties if they break the law?

So it’s not really a law? WTF kind of dumbass waste of time was it passing that?

The more I hear the more I think we must lobotomize our lawmakers before we let them get busy doing absolutely nothing.

    What a joke.

I have never seen a penalty in a proviso. I guess we underestimated democrats.

However, lawmakers don't take kindly to blatant disregard to the one year budget proviso. Schools may pay in the future.

So y’all are going to penalize the teachers and kids because you can’t control the administration. Sounds about par for the course.

School choice does not penalize anyone.

Big state government mandating what a local government can do. Sounds kinda old school liberal thinking to me.

If school boards can circumvent a governors order, what do we have a governor for?

If our lawmakers are going to pass laws that are not enforceable, why do we need them?

Let’s be real…we can’t really withhold funds from public school districts. That would only hurt the students. How about we impose hefty ass fines on school board members and superintendents who blatantly go against state law. I’m not talking about $100. They will laugh at that. I’m talking like $10,000 fines!
